Feng Tianyou, born in February 1942, a native of Tianjin, joined the army in 1960 and joined the party in 1965. He graduated from the Fourth Military Medical University of the People’s Liberation Army in July 1966. He is currently the vice president and chief physician of the Air Force General Hospital, a master’s tutor, and a national-level tutor. On December 18, 2001, he was appointed as the chief expert by the Air Force. He also served as vice-president and consultant of the National Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine, member of the Science and Technology Committee of the General Logistics Department of the Ministry of Health, standing member of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Health, vice-chairman of the National Orthopaedic Committee of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, chairman of the National Orthopaedic Massage Committee, and editorial board members of more than ten magazines, such as PLA Medical Journal, China Orthopaedic Journal and Aviation Military Medical Journal. In 1993, he was awarded the rank of Major General. Representative of the 13th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Feng Tianyou’s contribution is that he created a unique theory and diagnosis and treatment method with satisfactory results. He established a brand-new academic thought system in the clinical research of degenerative spinal diseases. In 1975, it was put forward for the first time that the imbalance between the inside and outside of the spine was the theoretical basis of degenerative diseases, and a spinal diagnosis system was established based on the "four lines of spinous process" fusion diagnosis method, and the "rotation reduction method of the spine (fixed point)" was used for treatment. For a series of diseases, such as lumbar disc herniation, cervical spondylosis, spondylolysis, etc., new viewpoints are expounded in the pathogenesis, new contents are put forward in the diagnosis, new methods are created in the treatment, remarkable clinical effects are achieved, breakthrough progress is made, and a series of pioneering work has been made in the soft tissue injury of limbs, waist and buttocks, which has been widely recognized by the academic community.

In 1966, after graduating from Feng Tianyou University at the age of 24, he was assigned to a certain unit of the Air Force and became an aviation military doctor serving pilots. At work, he saw that many pilots often suffer from low back and leg pain due to their occupation, and the treatment effect of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine is not obvious. Acupuncture, cupping and plastering can only temporarily relieve pain, but can’t solve the fundamental problem. Feng Tianyou’s heart was very heavy when he saw his originally vigorous and lively comrades tortured by the disease. At that time, a pilot was hospitalized with low back pain, which was never cured by western medicine. He heard that a folk doctor in Beijing could cure his illness with a few manipulations, which can be described as "going to the doctor in disorder". In desperation, the pilot quietly ran to the old man in the country behind his back. Sure enough, the old man used traditional massage methods to make his illness better. At that time, in the eyes of western medicine, the old man was like a witch doctor. In order not to bother the doctor, the pilot lay quietly for a few days before he said covertly that it was "the result of western medicine." Careful Feng Tianyou discovered the secret, and with curiosity and inquiry, he accompanied the pilot to the old man for a follow-up visit.
This is an old lady in her seventies named Luo Youming. She sat on the edge of the kang, touched the pilot’s back with her hand and said, "Your bones are crooked." He rubbed and massaged his back a few times, with light movements and clear rhythm. Immediately, the pilot’s illness disappeared. Look at other patients, bend in and go out straight. The magical effect is unbelievable if you don’t see it with your own eyes.
This "unique skill" caused Feng Tianyou to think deeply: according to the scientific theory of western medicine, there is no such thing as "the bone tip is crooked", but the massage technique of traditional Chinese medicine does have an objective effect. Feng Tianyou decided to learn from an old man who didn’t know a word. His respectful learning attitude won the appreciation of the old man and he was willing to impart experience. Teachers are willing to teach, apprentices are eager to learn, learn well, and learn from each other. Therefore, Feng Tianyou started a brand-new research: the treatment of "degenerative spinal diseases with injuries" with the combination of traditional Chinese and western medicine. As a result, a series of scientific research results have been produced, which has relieved the pain of many patients. "Clinical research on the treatment of soft tissue injury with integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine" won the first prize of military scientific and technological progress.?
The advantages of new medical osteopathy, such as short time, no pain, low cost and good curative effect, soon emerged in clinical treatment, causing some repercussions in society, and patients came to seek treatment in an endless stream.
In May 1975, Premier Zhou Enlai, who was seriously ill, was very happy when he learned about the new medical osteopathy from Li Xiannian, and immediately gave enthusiastic support and encouragement. He said: "A college graduate can put down his airs, learn from folk doctors, learn well and apply what he has learned, which is worth promoting." At that time, the Central Ministry of Health was going to hold a national conference on health work, and Feng Tianyou attended the conference as a special representative. At the meeting, he was asked to talk about his experience. After the meeting, the Central Ministry of Health decided to hold a training class quickly to promote it to the whole country. "New medical bonesetting therapy" has become a typical combination of traditional Chinese and western medicine. With these achievements, Feng Tianyou has trained more than 600 academic leaders of new medical orthopedics in China.
The scientific research innovation without portal is finally recognized by the scientific community. In August, 2002, Feng Tianyou founded the "China People’s Liberation Army Orthopedic Treatment Center of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine", which was officially listed as a national key discipline of traditional Chinese medicine.
