May 12th, 2024 is the 113th International Nurses’ Day. Xing Ruoqi, deputy director of the Department of Medical Administration of National Health Commission, introduced at the press conference held by the committee on the 11th that by the end of 2023, the total number of registered nurses in China had reached 5.63 million, and the number of registered nurses per 1,000 population had reached 4, with more than 80% nurses with college education.
Xing Ruoqi said that in recent years, the construction of nurses in China has achieved remarkable results. According to the actual situation, various localities have carried out the training of nursing professionals in shortage, such as the elderly, pediatrics, intensive care, infectious disease care, etc., and the overall quality of the nursing team has been significantly improved.
Xing Ruoqi said that National Health Commission continued to pay attention to the people’s feelings of seeing a doctor, and used new means, new technologies and new models to break through the difficulties of people’s medical treatment. Next, we will continue to implement the action plan to improve nursing services. First, we will urge and guide medical institutions to deepen the concept of "patient-centered", do holistic nursing with real responsibility system, and provide patients with warm nursing services. The second is to encourage medical institutions to gradually provide continuous nursing services to reduce the unplanned readmission rate of discharged patients. The third is to give play to the sinking and driving role of high-quality nursing resources in large hospitals and solve the nursing problems urgently needed by the masses nearby.
